Maldives government has signed an agreement with the Government of China on a road development project for Laamu atoll.
The Notes to be Exchanged for the development of major roads of connected islands of Laamu atoll was signed at n ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male’, today.
Ambassador-at-Large Abdul Azeez Yousuf said that the agreement will facilitate to construct the main roads from Gan to Fonadhoo.
He said that the project will pave the way for the development of Laamu atoll.
Ambassador Azeez noted that the Chinese have play an important role in the development of Maldives, ever since establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Speaking after the singing of the agreement, Chinese Ambassador the Maldives Mr. Yu Hongyao said that a technical team is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives tomorrow to carry out survey work for the project.
China has undertaken a number of developmental projects for the Maldives in the past, including the building of Foreign Ministry, the National Museum, and a number of Sinmale’ housing flats. A few projects are also ongoing under Chinese aid.
