Media groups must disseminate unbiased, truthful information: Gasim

Leader and Presidential Candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim has said that media groups in the Maldives must ensure that news relayed to the public consist of truthful information.

Gasim said this while speaking to the media near the official jetty upon his arrival in Male’ after a trip to three northern atolls.

“I would like to call on journalists and media groups to inform people of the truth, to tell us the truth without bias. Media groups need some fine tuning. They have to relay the truth, without bias,” said Gasim, who also acts as Head of VTV.

Gasim said that information and news need to be verified and researched by journalists before they are disseminated to the public.

He also said that it is part of the role of a journalist to give advice, and called on journalists to advise to the public on various issues.

Gasim said that the claim by some groups that the Maldives has two ideologies is not true, and the people are confused about this issue. He urged the media to explain the truth behind this issue to the people.
