President departs to Palestine

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has departed on a visit to Palestine this morning.

Speaking to the media at the Official Jetty prior to his departure, the President said that his trip is to answer an invitation from Palestinian President Dr. Mahmoud Abbas to officiate the 4th Islamic Conference of Bait Al Maqdis.

In addition to attending the Islamic Conference of Bait Al Maqdis to be inaugurated on 5 June, President Waheed will also meet senior officials of the Palestinian government.

President Waheed said that he will discuss ways to strengthen the close ties between the Maldives and Palestine and explore ways the Palestine could assist the Maldives in development efforts, especially in facilitating medical doctors and school teachers.

Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas also visited the Maldives in April last year.
