Presidential candidate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen has pledge to broaden opportunities for youth and have said that a PPM government will allocate MVR 300 million in next year’s budget for their development.
Speaking at a special campaign event for PPM's younger members held on the grounds next to Male’ Prison last night, Yameen said that the budget for development of youth in today’s government is too small and that this means a lot of compromises are made on their needs. He said that a PPM government will allocated MVR 300 million for youth in their first year of government.
“We will rearrange our spending in our government budget, without having to find additional money for the budget, I’m not talking about taking foreign loans. Just rearranging our spending from the government budget, in our government, God willing, we will start with five folds of the current amount. This means that the current budget of MVR 60 million, God willing, will start with MVR 300 million, for the sake of our youth,” Yameen said.
Proposing how he will spend the money, Yameen said he would facilitate sports equipment and other necessities for youths in population centres of more than 3000 people during the first year of his government and for population centres of more than 700 people during his second year of government.
Yameen said that a PPM government will aim to facilitate opportunities for youth and younger generations. His government will create job opportunities, Yameen said, to an extent where a person would not have to posses an O-Level to get a job. He said jobs will also be available for anybody with good qualifications.
