Constable Misbah

Arrangements are being made to conducted a funeral with full honours for Police Constable Misbah Abdulla tonight.

Police Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo died earlier this morning while being treated in ADK Hospital for injuries he sustained after being struck by a high-speed motorcycle while on active duty last night.

Police said that a wake ceremony for Constable Misbah Abdulla will be held in Islamic Centre from 16:00 today and that he will be buried in Galolhu Cemetery after Maghrib prayer tonight.

Police have said that the 27-year-old man who rode the motorcycle has a history of hitting police officers and then fleeing the scene and that the 21-year-old man who was seated in the passenger’s seat was released from detention in January this year after being arrested for a drug related offence.

Travelling at a high speed, the motorcycle deliberately crashed into Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo while he was on duty at a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) near Jetty Number 1 on Boduthakurufaanu Magu last night. They said that the young police officer was thrown into the air and landed about 80 feet away from the point of impact. The motorcycle then crashed into a flagpole, Police said, also injuring the two people riding the motorcycle. They are being treated in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and that they did not receive serious injuries, Police said.
