Police have said today that the man riding the motorcycle that crashed into the Police Constable Misbah Abdulla at a high-speed has a history of deliberately crashing into police officers.
Police Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo died earlier this morning while being treated in ADK Hospital for the injuries he sustained after being struck by a high-speed motorcycle last night.
There were two people on the motorcycle that struck Misbah. Police have revealed that the man riding the motorcycle has been identified as a 27 year old male named Hussain Afeef, Araamuge, Shaviyani Foakaidhoo. This man has a history of hitting police officers and then fleeing the scene, they said.
Police said that their records show that on the 6th of September last year, the man in question had broken traffic regulations after disobeying a policeman who ordered him to stop, had then driven his motorcycle against the one way street of Shabnam Magu and crashed into a policeman on the road, in a deliberate attempt to cause violence.
Police said that the man riding in the passenger seat of the motorcycle that crashed into Misbah last night was a 21-year-old male who was released from detention in January this year after being arrested for a drug related offense.
A motorcycle travelling at a high speed deliberately crashed into Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo while he was on duty at a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) near Jetty Number 1 on Boduthakurufaanu Magu last night. The young police officer was thrown into the air and landed about 80 feet away from the point of impact. The motorcycle then crashed into a flagpole, also injuring the two people riding the motorcycle, although their injuries were not severe.
Police said that a wake ceremony for Constable Misbah Abdulla will be held in Islamic Centre from 16:00 today and that he will be buried after Maghrib prayer tonight.
