Police provide information on manhunt for Mausoom, wanted in relation to gang rape case

The police have provided information on the manhunt for Mausoom Abbas, 23, of M. Hunaru, suspected of gang-raping a minor.

The police have made three announcements in search of Mausoom, who still remains at large.

In a video posted on the police website in this regard, Head of Family and Child Protection Department, Chief Inspector of Police Hassan Shifau said that three out of four people involved in this crime are under arrest.

Shifau said that Mausoom is among 50 people wanted by the police in relation to an ongoing operation. He said that Mausoom has a criminal record for 16 offences in the past, including assault, theft and drug-related crimes.

The suspects arrested by the police in relation to the gang rape case are three men aged 18, 19 and 22, all of whom have previous criminal records.

Shifau said that the gang rape victim had said that she had been intimidated and raped by four people; and when she went to the police station, signs of abuse were visible on her body.

The police said that samples from her clothes are being analysed under a court warrant, to obtain forensic evidence.

Shifau highlighted that the information provided by the victim were used to find and arrest the suspects of this crime. He said that the mixed DNA samples obtained from the victim match the DNA profiles of the arrested suspects.
