Manhunt launched in relation to assault of two people using sharp object

The police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who used a sharp object to assault and injure two people.

The suspect is Sharfaan Abdul Razzag Ahmed, 19, of Maafannu Lonumidhilige.

The police said that Sharfaan is suspected of using a sharp object to assault two people at the intersection of Chanbeyli Magu and Haveeree Hingun on 18 May at around 15:25.

The police have urged anyone who has any information regarding Sharfaan to contact Maldives Police Service at 3322111 or Serious and Organised Crime Department at 9911099.

The police said that due protection will be accorded to persons who provide information. They also thanked the public for their cooperation in similar situations in the past.

The police said earlier that the two people attacked on 18 May were aged 18 and 21.

The 18-year-old sustained stab injuries in his chest, back and several other places on his body, while the 21-year-old was attacked in the back.

Sharfaan has also been accused of attacking a person using a sharp object after forcing entry into Maafannu Nalahiya Manzil on 9 January 2010. A case in this regard was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office in January 2013.

Police have recently arrested several people in relation to assaults involving sharp objects.
