People of Miladhoo protest against Nasheed

The people of Noonu Miladhoo have tried to obstruct former President Mohamed Nasheed as he arrived in the island as part of his campaign for the upcoming presidential election.

Miladhoo Councillor Mohamed Ali said that supporters of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) protested as Nasheed arrived in the island at around 17:00 today.

“They had to stay for about one hour, unable to get on the island. A group of PPM supporters were protesting,” he said.

He said that some violence, including sand being thrown, took place during the protest.

After one hour of being obstructed from arriving in the island, Nasheed opened a haruge (station) for MDP in Miladhoo. He departed from the island shortly afterwards.

Miladhoo Councillor said that Nasheed spent only about half an hour on the island.
