The man who went missing after he left Gaafu Dhaalu Fares Maathoda on a dinghy has been found two weeks later.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Spokesperson Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef told Sun Online that Mohamed Falah, 30, was rescued by a German vessel en route to Malaysia.
He said that Falah was found yesterday afternoon about 900 miles away from the Maldives, and he is in good condition.
The boat which took Falah on-board will arrive in Malaysia in two days.
“We have just received information that it is a boat registered in Germany. It is traveling to Malaysia,” Abdul Raheem said.
MNDF said that Falah had contacted and spoken to his family over the phone.
Falah went missing while he was out on a dinghy near an uninhabited island near Fares Maathoda, Faathihuttaa.
The Coast Guard had worked with Indian navy aircraft to search for him.
Mohamed Sammoon Shareef, 21, who went missing while surfing near Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi on 21 May, remains missing.
Similarly, a boat called Azum which left Meemu Mulah on 4 May carrying two people, has also not been found.
