The Civil Court has rejected Umar Naseer’s request for a temporary injunction in relation to the case filed by him asking the court to declare void the results of the Primary Election of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
The former Vice President of PPM had requested for a temporary injunction against PPM, to halt all efforts to expel or take action against him and his supporters until the Civil Court made a decision on the case filed in relation to the primary.
The court ruled that according to the evidence presented by the plaintiff and the defendant, the activities of the PPM Ethics Committee and PPM Appeal Committee are within the party’s regulations, and no evidence had been presented to suggest otherwise.
The court also said that there was no reason to issue an injunction against the party based on the assumption that the party might take action against Umar and his supporters.
The case was filed to court by Umar after it was dismissed by the court when it was filed by PPM Medhu-Henveyru President Rahma Moosa.
Umar had claimed that in the PPM primary, the voter registry was compiled against the Political Parties Act, and thus requested the court to declare the election void.
