The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has said that while the deadline for paying Business Profit Tax (BPT) was up at the end of last month, fifty companies remain with outstanding BPT payments.
Information shared by MIRA with Sun shows that the deadline for paying BPT was 30 April 2013, and only 600 out of 650 companies liable to pay BPT, had paid BPT.
MIRA’s regulations state that BPT must be paid by companies of which the account periods were from January to October 2012. The companies of which the account periods ended at the end of December 2012 should pay BPT at the end of June 2013, and MIRA estimates a total of 5,500 companies will pay BPT then.
MIRA collected MVR 66,606,109 as BPT at the end of in April 2012 and MVR 737,139,061 as BPT at the end of April 2013.
