The President’s Office has said that members of President Nasheed’s Cabinet have been requested to resign yesterday.

Under Secretary of President’s Office Hussain Amir said that letters have been sent to members of President Nasheed’s Cabinet yesterday regarding their resignation, following the handover of power from Mohamed Nasheed to former Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

“Work is underway to appoint a new Cabinet for Dr Waheed’s government. Resignations were requested from the former Cabinet to facilitate setting up of the new one,” Amir said.

Amir said that several members of the former Cabinet have already submitted their letters of resignations, and that he hopes to receive the rest before the end of the day. He did not reveal how many members submitted their resignation or their names.

President Dr Waheed said that the new Cabinet will consist of members from all political parties, and that attempts have been made to hold discussions with MDP President Dr Ibrahim Didi in this regard.
