The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) has urged Island Councils and Atoll Councils to send information to the centre regarding the damage caused to islands due to the harsh weather presently being experienced in the Maldives.
This came in a statement issued by the NDMC today.
The NDMC also urged people to take all precautionary measures possible at island level to ensure safety when faced with bad weather conditions.
The centre advised councils to increase awareness on matters such as ensuring that roofs and houses are secured during strong winds, protecting household items before they are damaged due to flooding, and taking measures to ensure trees and palm trees do not pose a danger to people as a result of bad weather.
