Efforts under way to hold World Travel Awards 2014 in Maldives

The Ministry of Tourism has said that discussions are under way to hold the main event of the World Travel Awards 2014 in the Maldives.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Mohamed Maleeh Jamal told Sun Online today that discussions in this regard are ongoing between the Maldivian Tourism Ministry and the organiser of the World Travel Awards 2014.

Maleeh said that he was confident that Maldives would be given the opportunity to host the event, especially since the group was satisfied with the World Travel Awards 2013 Indian Ocean category event held in the Maldives last Sunday.

“We are quite confident that the Maldives can host this event. They give priority to holding it in countries like ours,” Maleeh said.

He said that such an opportunity would help boost the tourism sector.

World Travel Awards is an annual event held since 1993, to recognise the services in the world tourism and travel industries. It is also the most expensive award given in the tourism and travel industries.
