PPM alone can bring a steady government to Maldives: Dr. Jameel

Recently chosen running mate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and former Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Mohamed Jameel has said that Maldivian people have endured bitter days due to the lack of a steady government and that the only political party that can bring that stability is the Progressive Party of Maldives.

Speaking to Sun Online today, Jameel confidently stated that PPM will win the upcoming presidential election by a good majority and that the experience of coalition governments has been bitter for the Maldivian people.

“So far we’ve seen that coalition as something very bitter. We saw this in Nasheed’s leadership too, the coalition formed with different organizations was very bitter. Now we’re seeing larger organization forming coalitions with smaller organizations. PPM will bring a steady government,” Jameel said.

According the former Home Minister, a steady government by PPM would, for the first time, execute the proper programs needed for the people and make the realization of the social and economic protection granted by the Constitution possible.

He said that one of the advantages PPM currently posses is that the programs in their party manifesto have already been accepted by the people.

“The economic and job creation will be, for the first time in Maldives where a political party opens so many opportunities for the youth, the most comprehensive program to create job opportunities for younger generations including social protection for Maldivian women. Accordingly, the government will decide to try to provide permanent shelters and those who become lose their homes as a result of broken families. It has been decided to make arrangements for others as well, to find permanent shelters for those who lose their homes due to a number of circumstances. We have also plans for people who get divorced, to get a portion of the property from the home that they had built together,” Jameel said.

Jameel said that he trusts in the Maldivian people to chose a government that has good experience in governance and providing social protection. He said that currently, PPM is only party with such capabilities.
