Adhaalth asks to reveal academic qualifications of MPs sitting in Penal Code Bill review committee

Adhaalath Party has requested the Parliament to reveal the academic qualification of the Members of Parliament sitting in the Parliamentary Committee reviewing the Penal Code Bill.

The letter sent by Adhaalath Party to the Parliament states that the party requires a list detailing the academic qualifications of the MPs sitting the Parliament Committee reviewing the Penal Code Bill. It is regarding the parliament committee's summons for the party’s Scholars’ Wing President Sheikh Ilyas Hussain, the party said.

Made public by Adhaalath Party, the letter demands a reply before 10:00 am Wednesday morning.

The Parliament Committee reviewing the Penal Code Bill sent summons for Sheikh Ilyas Hussain on two separate occasions, following accusations that the Sheikh had publicly stated that purpose of the current draft of the Penal Code Bill was to crush and destroy the religion of Islam.

The Parliament Committee reviewing the Penal Code Bill is composed of; Bileidhoo MP Ahmed Hamza, Maafannu-north MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, Thulhaadhoo MP Naazim Rashaad, Naifaru MP Ahmed Mohamed, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru.
