Two people have been arrested along with 16 bottles of alcohol from a speedboat named “Leora” docked near the Male’ Swimming Track area yesterday.
Police arrested a 32-year-old Maldivian and a 44-year-old Bangladeshi man from the speedboat.
Police revealed that the two men were arrested during an operation conducted after receiving information around 17:50 yesterday evening that bottles of alcohol were being transported. An inspection of the speedboat had produced 16 bottles of alcohol stored in different parts of the speedboat, the police said.
Police said that the confiscated items include; 12 bottles of Absolut Vodka, one bottle of King Robert Vodka, two bottles of Jameson Irish Whiskey and one bottle of Russian Standard Vodka.
Police Drug Enforcement Department is now investigating the case.
Police have confiscated large amounts of alcohol and drugs during the past two years, as part of their special operations undertaken to make the capital a safer city.
