Education Ministry and NIE to provide assistance to Kudakudhinge Hiya

The Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Education (NIE) have decided, as part of the special activities held today on the occasion of Children’s Day, to provide assistance to Kudakudhinge Hiya (children’s shelter) located in Villingili.

A gift symbolic of the assistance to be provided to Kudakudhinge Hiya was presented after a friendly football match held at Henveyru Stadium this evening on the occasion of Children’s day. The gift was presented on behalf of Education Ministry and NIE by Education Minister Dr Asim Ahmed. It was accepted on behalf of Kudakudhinge Hiya by Minister of State for Gender Dr Aminath Rameela.

Deputy Director of NIE Adam Shareef said that the assistance by Education Ministry and NIE to Kudakudhinge Hiya consists of several long-term programs.

“We have decided to visit Kudakudhinge Hiya once every month starting from next week, and to conduct interactive programs with the children. This is the beginning of several long-term activities,” he said.

He said that in addition to the symbolic gift presented today, the two institutions had gathered several other gifts to be handed over to Kudakudhinge Hiya.

The football match between Education Ministry and NIE was won 5-2 by Education Ministry. During the break, employees of the two institutions with members of their families participated in several activities aimed at children.

Children’s Day is marked in the Maldives on 2 May every year.
