BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (AP) — Ronaldinho's Atletico Mineiro reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores by beating Sao Paulo 4-1 on Wednesday, advancing 6-2 on aggregate following a 2-1 first-leg win.
Atletico striker Jo scored in the 17th, 58th and 65th minutes at the Independencia Stadium, while forward Diego Tardelli got on the board in the 60th. Luis Fabiano netted for Sao Paulo in the 75th.
Ronaldinho set the tone by hitting the crossbar with a free kick in the third, and Atletico dominated from there.
Atletico's quarterfinal opponent will be either Brazil's Palmeiras or Mexico's Tijuana, which drew 0-0 in the first leg in Mexico.
Meanwhile in Rio de Janeiro, Fred and Carlinhos scored as Brazilian champion Fluminense beat nine-men Emelec of Ecuador 2-0 to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
