DPRS Cooperative to be commissioned to renovate Himmafushi Council Office

It has been decided to commission the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services (DRPS) Cooperative to renovate Kaafu Himmafushi Council Office, which was damaged in an arson attack on the night of 10 April 2013.

The arson attack left several documents, furniture and other equipment in the council office completely damaged.

President of Himmafushi Council Shaan Ibrahim told Sun today that the best proposal to carry out this work was submitted by the DPRS Cooperative.

“We will finalise the agreement with them tomorrow. The DPRS Cooperative is a group of people in prison. Those who work with the cooperative are inmates.”

He said that the work is likely to cost about MVR 342,000, and that the money will be deposited to the inmates’ accounts.

Shaan said earlier that it is very likely that the arson attack was intentional.
