Will announce a running mate on Thursday night: PPM

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the party will officially announce a running mate this Thursday.

Speaking to the press inside the PPM office today, the party’s council member and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon said that the party will host a special event to announce a running mate at 21:15 on Thursday night in Rannabandeyri Hall, Dharubaaruge.

Dhunya said that the announcement will be made by the party’s presidential candidate Abdulla Yameen. She said that the persons experience and capability to hold the office were considered before selecting a person for the job.

“In selecting the running mate, we considered whether the person was capable enough to be the president and whether the person had made a substantial contribution to the party. The party’s regulation states that running mate has to be picked the presidential candidate,” Dhunya said.

In addition to the event on Thursday, the party has planned three different events in Hithadhoo, Hulhumeedhoo, and Feydhoo in Addu City during the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The party had previously made plans to announce a running mate on last Thursday in Carnival area in the capital Male’, but the event had to be cancelled due unfavorable weather.
