Two policemen charged for February 2012 attacks on MP Moosa Manik and MP Mariya Ahmed Didi

State has raised charges against two policemen for the attacks on Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Chairperson and Hulhu-Heneveyru MP Reeko Moosa Manik and Machangoalhi-north MP Mariya Ahmed Didi during the protests that took place on the 8th of February last year.

Media Official for the Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that the charges for attacking MP Reeko Moosa Manik have been brought upon Mohamed Waheed of Rose Villa, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

Media Official said that Mohamed Waheed is being charged with assault for throwing a steel canister at MP Moosa Manik, which had subsequently resulted in injuries to his head.

Criminal Court said that a man named Ibrahim Faisal of Ma. Raulaa has been charged for attacking MP Mariya Ahmed Didi.

He too has been charged with assault, for attacking MP Mariya while she was inside a store, dragging her outside and joining other policemen on the streets, where he had hit her on the face, said the Criminal Court official.
