MNDF returns security to Supreme Court

MNDF has returned security services to the Supreme Court building, less than 24 hours after they withdrew their services.

A Media and Public Units Official of Judicial Administration said that MNDF returned security services to the Supreme Court at around 12.50pm today. He said that they did not indicate a reason for abandoning the services or for returning them.

“We didn’t receive anything in writing. Just like they didn’t say anything last night when they abandoned the building, they didn’t say anything when they returned today either,” the official said.

Attempts to contact MNDF regarding this issue have not been successful.

Sun has received information that a group broke the lock of the Supreme Court gate at around 12.58am last night, subsequent to security officials leaving the area.

MNDF also took the keys to the Supreme Court when they left the building last night, but later returned the keys indicating that they were taken ‘by mistake’.

Events leading up to this incident include MDP submitting a bill to the Parliament yesterday, proposing the reduction in the number of Supreme Court and High Court Judges.
