Eight people arrested in relation to Vilufushi assault

Police have arrested 8 people in connection to the assault yesterday between a group in Thaa Vilufushi and a man who went to the island on a fishing boat, which resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.

Police revealed that the people arrested included a 44 year old, a 29 year old, a 25 year old, a 27 year old, a 20 year old, a 26 year old, a 22 year old and a 18 year old.

Police said that the 16 year old who received serious injuries was transported to Laamu Gan Regional Hospital, and later taken to the capital Male’ for further treatment. Four other people were also injured during the assault, who were treated in Vilufushi Health Centre, said the Police.

Vilufushi Council said that the 16 year old boy received a hard blow on the head from a hard object used to grab fish onto the sea, which had caused his skull to fracture. The boy fell into the sea after receiving the blow, they said, and was soon fished out and taken to the Vilufushi Health Centre by some locals.
