Will gain enough members to win elections through first round of voting: Yameen

Presidential candidate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen has said that he is working towards winning the presidential election through the first round of voting by gaining more members to the party.

Yameen made his statement at a farewell event for the party's Secretary General Yumna Maumoon held in Nasandhura Palace Hotel last night.

He said that there are obstacles to conveying their party ideology through the media and that if they can take their message across to the people in the islands, the party is bound to gain more members.

“We are trying to make our party even stronger then before, from our current party number of 32,000 to 60,000 members by then end of June, by the time we face the presidential elections, every one member to have added two more members to the party, our aim is to make the party big enough for us to win during the first round of voting. God willing, we will get there.”

He noted that the party faces certain difficulties in conveying their ideology through the media and that once they can reach the people, the party will gain more members.
