Majeediyya School student Shaan dies

Ali Shaan, 14, the Majeediyya School student who went into a coma after being hit in the head by a basketball on Friday morning, has passed away.

Shaan’s father, who is in Colombo, told Sun Online moments ago over the phone that Shaan died at around 16:30 and that efforts are under way to transport him to the cemetery.

Shaan, a disciplined student of Majeediyya School grade 9, died after 48 hours of being in a coma after being hit in the head by the ball while playing basketball with friends in Hulhumale’.

Shaan was taken to Sri Lanka because he could not be treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.

Shaan’s family said earlier that an operation had been performed to remove the blood that had haemorrhaged to his brain. Regardless of this, Shaan never regained consciousness.
