Wataniya Telcom Maldives has become the first telecommunications service provider in the Maldives to launch 4G services.
Speaking at the service launching ceremony today, Wataniya’s Chief Executive Office Haroon Shahul Hameed said that Wataniya's introduction of the first 4G service in the country is testimony of the company dedication to provide quality services to the people of Maldives.
Wataniya’s head of marketing Aishath Zamra Zahir also spoke at the ceremony. She noted that the introduction of the novel 4G service will provide great ease for their customers. Comparing the new service with previous data service provided by the company, she said that the previous 3G network had data connection upto 14.4 Mbps, while the new 4G network will allow connection speeds up to 100 Mbps, a considerable difference.
“The introduction of this service make things easier. While a television series would take hours to download previously, the service can now be acquired within a matter of minutes through the new 4G service by Wataniya,” Zamra said.
Wataniya’s head of network Hussain Niyaz said that service is yet limited to greater Male’ area, but said that the company will soon provide the service to other parts of the country.
Wataniya revealed that all mobile phones and internet devices on the 700mhz range will support the new 4G service, including the Iphone 5, Ipad 4, Samsung Galaxy mobiles with LTE capability and other such devices.
