Police probe accusations against Inthi, of disrespecting the courts

The police have launched an investigation into a case against Maafannu-North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi), accusing him of disrespecting the courts.

This has been confirmed by a police media official.

Inthi said that he was contacted by the police on Wednesday, saying that he spoke in a disrespectful manner about the courts on a TV program.

Inthi said that he was asked to come by the police office at a time that was convenient for him.

He said that he was preparing to depart to Addu when he was contacted by the police on Wednesday, and thus had not yet had the chance to attend the police office.

“I am someone who works to uphold respect for the courts. I have worked in the justice sector, I love that sector. We have been elected by the people and are paid to find fault and criticise courts and other institutions, to ensure the issues are corrected. They shouldn’t try to supress us,” he said.
