Today’s Independent Institutions Committee meeting ended following Ali Waheed’s objection to continue the meeting. He cited refusal to allow opposition groups to proceed with today’s meeting as they had ended the National Security Committee meeting last night, as a reason for his protest.
Committee Chairperson Kulhudhuffushi Dhekunu MP Mohamed Nasheed ended the meeting when Ali Waheed spoke endlessly on the subject of opposition groups ending committee meetings. When Nasheed brought the meeting to an end, Ali Waheed called for Nasheed’s resignation as committee Chairperson. Nasheed did not respond to this.
Three institutions were scheduled to be summoned to today’s committee meeting. They were Prosecutor General (PG), Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and Judicial Services Commission (JSC). The Parliament Office has not announced new dates to summon these institutions to the committee meeting.
Last Tuesday’s committee meeting to which HRCM was summoned came to an abrupt end when an MNBC cable was cut off. Last Saturday’s meeting also ended following Ali Waheed’s protest to continue the meeting.
