GMR increases jet fuel prices for international airlines

Jet fuel prices for international airlines have been increased at Ibrahim Nasir Male’ International Airport. Jet fuel prices for local airlines have, at the same time, been reduced.

In a circular signed and issued by Chief Commercial Officer of GMR Pradas Gopalan on 29 January, they said that from 1 February 2012 the price of a Jet A1 fuel for domestic airlines will be US$1.15 per liter and that for international airlines will be US$ 1.18 per liter.

This is a reduction of five cents for domestic airlines and an increase of five cents for international airlines.

In January, the price of a liter of Jet A1 fuel for international airlines was US$1.13, and that for domestic airlines was US$1.20.

This increase in jet fuel prices comes at a time when several airlines have warned against discontinuation of flight operations to Male’, follows GMR’s ground handling fee hike to 51 percent.

Attempts to obtain a reason from GMR for the increase in jet fuel prices have not yet been successful.
