The group of people who were swindled by Head of Maleesha Hajj Group, Ismail Abdul Latheef, have held a protest outside his residence and later broken in to his residence.
Ismail Abdul Latheef’s father Athama Abdul Latheef and his daughter were in the living room when the protesters broke in to M. Meadow on Fareedhee Magu, the residence of Athama Abdul Latheef.
Protesters threatened and warned Athama Abdul Latheef and his family, but the family members did not respond to any of the warnings.
Athama Abdul Latheef’s family has also told the media that they do not want to comment on the matter.
The protesters said that they saw Ismail Abdul Latheef when they entered the house, and that he ran in and hid when he saw them. They called to get him out, and said that they will not stop the protest until they get to meet with him.
The protest began at around 8:00 pm. They police, when they arrived at the scene, removed the protesters from the house and also blocked the road.
No confrontations took place, and no arrests have been made.
Maleesha Hajj Group is said to have swindled a group of people out of MVR 11.9 million.
The government has assured to facilitate the hajj pilgrimage this year for those who were defrauded by Maleesha Hajj Group last year.
The case against Ismail Abdul Latheef has been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office by the police.
