The party I'd like to participate the most is MDP: MP Riyaz Rasheed

Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has said that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is the political party he would most like to participate.

MP Riyaz Rasheed, who is currently a member of Jumhoory Party and a strong critic of MDP, has made several statements in support of the party at the parliament today.

Speaking at a parliament’s debate session, MP Riyaz described MDP as the only party in Maldives that functions as a political party. He said that this is a consistent reality.

“From all the political parties in the Maldives, the party that functions as a proper political party is MDP. I have to say this, with joy and regret. MDP is the party that functions as a political party, from the inside and outside [the party]. Even though we have now gone onto the streets and changed the government, this reality cannot be changed. MDP will always have due credit. This is why I’d like to participate the most in MDP,” Riyaz said.

MP Riyaz however said that MDP does not obey the rule of law once they are in power, and that he was willing to contribute to the party if they functioned according the proper principles.

“I cannot be with them because once they gain power, they do not believe in Islam. They do not obey the country’s laws. But if MDP functions according proper principles, we will be in the party’s front line,” MP Riyaz said.
