President of Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdulla has warned last night that the current protests will not come to an end until President Nasheed goes down on his knees in front of the constitution to apologise to the Maldivian people.
At the protest held last night held at Artificial Beach, Imran suggested two ways to bring the protests to an end. One is the President apologising to the Maldivian people for his illegal practices, the other is the Police arresting him for his illegal practices.
“If Mohamed Nasheed does not go down on his knees, or if he is not arrested within the next five days, he will never apologise. So it’s up to you to decide. Arrest him within the next five days. Mohamed Nasheed is responsible for more serious crimes than any other modern leader of our country. He has destroyed our entire judiciary,” Imran said.
He said that Major General Ibrahim Didi and Mohamed Ziyad and Nasrullah are responsible for ordering security forces to implement President Nasheed’s unlawful demands. He said that the only way these officers can be forgiven is if they arrest President Nasheed.
President of Jumhooree Party Gasim Ibrahim said at last night’s protest that if the oath taken by Judges of lower courts is illegitimate, then the oath taken by President Nasheed is also illegitimate and he should resign immediately.
“We call for his immediate resignation. You [President Nasheed] are an illegal leader. Resign. You do not fulfil the requirements, come down. This is the reality. The constitution says that the President has to take his oath in front of the Chief Justice. However no Chief Justice was present when he took his oath,” Gasim said.
Gasim called repeatedly for President Nasheed to resign from his post last night. He said that the current regime’s policy is to confuse the citizens about what is right, and that President Nasheed can be prosecuted for having violated the law.
Gasim said that the destruction of the judicial system will not be tolerated, and that all the Maldivian citizens should unite and take to the streets to end the practices of the current government.
