Gaumee Party has said that it is probable that the Police used poisonous spray on Gaumee Party Council Member Ahmed Ibrahim Didi (Sandhaan Ahanmaidhy) during the series of ongoing protests in Male’.
They also indicated that this may have threatened his life and that he is currently being treated at IGM Hospital.
In a Press Release by Gaumee Party, they said today that Sandhaan Ahanmaidhy was arrested by the Police in a ruthless manner, who were following the orders of President Nasheed. Ahanmaidhy was exercising his right to freedom of expression, as allowed in article 27 of the constitution.
“Ahanmaidhy is in serious condition due to the ruthless actions of the Police. It is probable that a poisonous spray was used on him. Doctors have not permitted leaving the country for treatment as his condition is too serious,” the Press Release says.
Gaumee Party requested any person who is informed that the Police used poisonous spray on Ahanmaidhy, to come forward to Gaumee Party with this information. They also asked to share any photos or videos of the ‘poisonous’ spray being used on Ahanmaidhy.
However, Police Medial Official said today that the Police only used standard spray, and not poisonous spray. He also said that it was not sprayed directly on Ahanmaidhy’s face, and that spray is used to disperse the crowds.
