Two parties submitted bids for Hulhumale

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said that bids were submitted by two parties for the second phase of the Hulhumale’ land reclamation project.

HDC said earlier that the second phase of the project will commence in January 2013.

Managing Director of HDC Shuhail Ahmed said today that bids for this project had been submitted by two parties and that the evaluation process started today.

He expressed hope that the project would be awarded before the end of this month.

“Our contract will state that the reclamation work must be completed within six months of the agreement signing date. Additional one year will be given to complete the reef construction,” he said.

Shuhail said that the two companies that had submitted bids are from The Netherlands and Belgium. He said that the project was delayed due to delays in completing the EIA.

Under the second phase of the Hulhumale’ land reclamation project, 230 hectares of land will be reclaimed on the side facing Farukolhufushi, which would accommodate 100,000 inhabitants. Under the first phase, 188 hectares were reclaimed to accommodate 60,000 inhabitants. Statistics of HDC show that more than 20,000 people currently reside in Hulhumale’.
