The case was submitted by Abbas Adil Riza, the spokesperson for President Mohamed Waheed’s Gaumee Ithihaad Party (GIP).

Speaking to Sun, Abbas said that the case was submitted to Supreme Court asking to declare that the MP’s have acted against the Constitution and thus, to lose their seats in parliament as a consequence. The motion was filed under Article 74 of the Constitution, the article concerning the qualifications or removal of a members of the Parliament, Abbas said.

Abbas however did not reveal the names of the 11 MPs.
