We want President Nasheed to participate in the presidential election: Former Speaker Seena Zahir

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) member and former Speaker of the Parliament Seena Ahmed Zahir has said that he does not fear former president Mohamed Nasheed or his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and that he would like for the former president to compete in the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking at a PPM rally in Alimas Carnival stage area last night, Seena Zahir said that while capable people like PPM’s Abdulla Yameen are to compete, the presidential election will have no fervor if former president Nasheed does not compete.

He said that PPM will win this year’s presidential, and that they will not chase judges or call to replace them in process.

Making a reference to the local football players, the former Speaker said that the football matches will not have any fervor if like “Dhangandey” and “Oppo” do not play.

“We do not fear MDP or Nasheed. While we set course for the presidential elections under Yameen’s candidacy, we want president Nasheed to participate as well. Or the election will not have any zeal. We will not chase the judges. We will not try to replace the judges either. We will win this election by working within the legal system,” Seena Zahir said.

Rebutting opposition claims that Yameen showers with processed mineral water and that he has unjustly acquired $800 million, Seena Zahir said that the accusations are baseless rumors.

“There is a folk story about Yameen. It’s one of those stories, like the Rannamaari story. That he showed with mineral water, for example. Or that 800 million dollar story. God will know where the 800 million dollars are now. As Yameen has said, up until today, there has no proof. Just some rumors spread, by some people,” Seena Zahir said.

He said that PPM is the only party that can truly lead the country and that Yameen is a person that is familiar to him, and that Yameen has the capabilities of a leader.
