Court sentences safari yacht company to pay overdue taxes

Civil Court has sentenced a safari yacht company to pay overdue taxes and subsequent fines of over MVR 300,000 to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

Civil Court sentenced Poseidon Maldives Private Limited, the company that manages “The Maldives Mosaic Safari” to pay the fines last Sunday. The company was not represented in court when Civil Court passed the sentence.

The Civil Court sentence stated that “The Maldives Mosaic Safari” had an amount of $16,480 over due in taxes and that it has been proved to the court that the safari yacht is now liable for fines amounting to MVR 142,000.

The Court sentenced the safari yacht company to pay a total of MVR 396,121.60 as taxes and fines with a period of 14 days from sentencing.

“[we] declare that this money shall be paid by Poseidon Maldives Private Limited to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, [we] sentence Poseidon Maldives Private Limited in their absence, to be notified to pay the total sum of the money, within a period of 14 days starting from 31st March 2013, to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority,” the Civil Court sentence stated.
