Difficulties are being faced by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospitals (IGMH) as doctors are not able to perform some operations due to a shortage of anaesthesiologists.
Sun Online understands that some people have had to wait long periods for operations due to the shortage of anaesthesiologists at IGMH.
One person told Sun Online, “We are waiting impatiently, we are from the atolls. The operation has been delayed due to the shortage of anaesthesiologists at IGMH.”
IGMH Dr Mohamed Habeeb said that the hospital is facing difficulties due to a shortage of anaesthesiologists. He said that the hospital has three anaesthesiologists, and that one of them is currently on sick leave.
“We are trying to find anaesthesiologists, I am trying very hard personally as well,” he said.
He said that due to this problem, the hospital has halted all general operations and currently performs only emergency operations.
Dr Habeeb said that there is a shortage of anaesthesiologists in India as well as other parts of the world.
