Minister of Education Dr Asim Ahmed has said that based on the results of the students who took the O’Level Exam last year, 421 students are likely to make it to the Top 10 in the Maldives.
Dr Asim said while speaking at a press conference by Ministry of Education held at Velaanaage Media Room today, that 371 students made it to the Top 10 out of the students who took the O’Level Exam in 2011, and 421 students are likely to be in the Top 10 out of the students who took the exam in 2012.
He said that higher secondary education will be commenced in 24 schools this year.
Referring to training of teachers, Dr Asim said that 3 supervisors will be trained at certificate level 3, and 30 teachers will be trained at certificate level 3 for children with special needs this year.
He further said that the ministry will train several preschool teachers at advance level and certificate level 4 this year.
He said that renovation will be carried out for several schools this year including the demolition and reconstruction of the old building of Aminiya School.
He highlighted that schools in Male’ are facing the problem of lack of space, and said that efforts are ongoing to obtain land to construct a new school as soon as possible.
