Problems regarding political party membership forms reported to police: Elections Commission

The Elections Commission has said that the police have been requested to investigate the problems associated with some membership forms submitted by political parties.

The commission held a press conference today as part of its series of weekly press conferences to provide information on the preparations for the Presidential Election.

Secretary General of Elections Commission Asim Abdul Sattar said while speaking at today’s press conference that the problems reported to the police include the issue of a membership form filled in by a deceased person and a membership form submitted under the name of an employee of the Elections Commission.

He said that four complaints have also been filed to the police regarding forgery of identity cards.

“We noted serious problems with the membership forms that were checked recently. This includes the issue of a membership form filled in by a deceased person and a form filled in under the name of an employee of this commission by someone who had stolen his identity card. We have also noted four cases related to identity card forgery,” he said.

He also announced that the Presidential Election Regulation, which has been in effect since 2008, will be open for public comments until 7 April as part of the efforts to revise this regulation.
