President calls to improve conditions for Bangladeshi workers

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has called upon the Maldivian employers to improve the working conditions of Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives.

Speaking at a function held in Dharubaaruge to mark the Independence Day and National Day of Bangladesh, President Waheed said that it is important to reflect on the conditions of Bangladeshi workers, and said that he would like to appeal to the employers to reflect on their current condition and try to improve the working conditions.

“I think it is important, on this auspicious occasion, to reflect on the conditions of expatriate workers, especially our Bangladeshi brothers and sisters in the Maldives. I take this opportunity to appeal to my compatriots in the Maldives to reflect on this current condition and do everything possible to improve the working conditions of our brothers and sisters and to ensure that their rights are always guaranteed,” the President said during his speech.

Speaking at the function, the President congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of their Forty Second Independence and National Day.

He also highlighted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh, and spoke of the late Bangladeshi President Zillur Rahman. The President said that Zillur Rahman will be remembered as a distinguished Bangladeshi statesman who played a very prominent role in fostering the values of democracy and human rights in Bangladesh.
