Fuvahmulah National Administration Office audit report reveal discrepancies

A special audit report of the Fuvahmulah National Administration Office published by the Auditor General’s Office has revealed a number of instances where that the office had acted against laws and regulations.

The report highlighted that the office had failed to prepare the financial statistics mandated by the Public Finance Act to be produced following the abolition of the National Administration Office.

The National Administration Offices were established during former president Nasheed’s presidency, and were dissolved by the current government on the 13th of February 2013.

The report also noted that in some instances, the office had disbursed money before they have received certain goods. It highlighted one instance where the office had paid an amount of MVR 206,748 for the delivery of furniture before they had received them, and that further investigation had revealed that they had not received 10 pieces of “medium back visitors’ chair with armrest” worth an sum of MVR 28,000.

The report continues to note another instance where the office had awarded a contract to conduct the security of the events held in Thundi ward in conjunction with the SAARC summit, but had awarded them without proper announcement to seek the best available choices. The report noted that MVR 24,000 per month was disbursed for maintaining security in Thundi, and an additional MVR 18,000 per month to conduct security of Bandaara Kilhi. The contracts were handed over on November 2011.

The Auditor General’s report calls to take the proper action against those parties who had acted against laws and regulations.
