Swim Maldives has successfully concluded the first event of the Odin Rashah swimming series.
The inaugural event of the SME Digital Odin Rashah series, organized by Swim Maldives and sponsored by SME Digital, was held in Villimale' with strong participation and public interest.
This is the first open-water swimming series of its kind in the Maldives. A total of 25 teams and 50 individual swimmers took part, with all slots filled within 24 hours of opening registrations. The Odin Rashah format draws inspiration from the historic relationship between Maldivians and the sea: contestants jump from a boat anchored offshore and swim approximately 500 metres to the island’s beach.
The event revives a traditional experience from a time before ports and bridges, when island communities routinely swam ashore. Swim Maldives aims to reconnect today’s generation with the culture and lifestyle of rural island life.
The long-term goal is to expand the series from north to south, bringing the experience to communities across the country. SME Digital took title sponsorship to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening relationships with island communities nationwide.
Hosting the event in different islands is expected to bring together participants and visitors, support local businesses, and boost island-level economic activity.
The second event of the SME Digital Odin Rashah series is scheduled for November 27 in K. Guraidhoo. The tournament is receiving strong interest, with 50 swimmers already registered.
