Sinan appointed AgroNAT’s MD following parliamentary seat loss; Anas appointed chair

MIFCO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohamed Anas appointed Chairman of AgroNAT, Mohamed Sinan (Sina) as Managing Director.

Mohamed Sinan (Sina), who recently lost his North Hithadhoo constituency parliamentary seat, has been appointed Managing Director of Agro National Corporation (AgroNAT), following its restructuring as a subsidiary of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

MIFCO announced that, in accordance with the government’s decision to place AgroNAT under its management, a new leadership team has been appointed to the subsidiary’s board. Accordingly, MIFCO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mohamed Anas, has been appointed Chairman of AgroNAT, while Sinan will serve as Managing Director.

Welcoming the new leadership, MIFCO reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with AgroNAT to streamline its operations and identify further opportunities for growth in the agriculture and fisheries sectors. MIFCO also extended its best wishes to Anas and Sinan for success in their new roles.

Sinan’s appointment comes after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year resulted in the loss of his parliamentary seat over an outstanding debt. The court determined that Sinan had failed to repay a MVR 3.8 million loan owed to the Maldives Islamic Bank.

Although Sinan initially secured the ruling PNC ticket to contest the subsequent by-election for the North Hithadhoo seat, he later withdrew his candidacy. At the time, PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah said Sinan had relinquished the ticket to spend more time with his family. A few months later, however, Sinan has returned to a leadership position at a state-owned enterprise.
