Maldives mobile internet base surpasses 100,000 users

Statistics published by the Telecommunications Authority of Maldives has revealed that the number of registered mobile internet users in the Maldives has exceeded the 100,000 user mark.

The statistics show that the country had a total of 104,671 mobile internet users at the end of February, compared with 79,267 mobile internet users recorded a month earlier. It calculates to an increase of 25,000 users within a one month period. Statistics also shows that there were 19,326 fixed-line broadband subscribers in the Maldives.

The total number of mobile users in the country grew to 578,010 in February, of which 70,495 are post-paid subscribers and the remaining 505,515 show to be prepaid mobile users.

At the end of February, the number of fixed lines stood at a total of 24,122, of which 17,797 were established in Male’, Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’. The number of fixed lines in other inhabited islands around the country total up to 3871 lines, excluding resorts and uninhabited islands, which has total of 1378 fixed lines. A total of 1067 fixed lines are used by government offices around the country.

Telecommunications Authority of Maldives statistics shows that there are 129 pay phones currently in the country. All of the payphones except for one, are located in Male’.
