Vaadhoo Council introduces curfew-style restrictions to curb growing misconduct among children

R. Vaadhoo Council has decided to implement strict measures, including a form of night-time curfew, following a rise in misbehavior among school-aged children on the island.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Vaadhoo Council said that building a crime-free and socially responsible community is one of its core goals, and that the council is working to identify challenges and find immediate solutions. The council noted that early childhood education plays a crucial role in shaping a strong and responsible generation.

However, the council said some students in the small island community have recently begun displaying worrying behavior. To address the issue, the council has issued a set of recommendations and restrictions for children. These include:

• Not staying outside after 9:00 pm without a parent  

• Not using squares, parks or socially developed beaches after sunset  

• Not using sports facilities after sunset  

• No sports activities in sports venues during prayer times  

• Not going to the beach without a parent  

• Not travelling out of the island without a parent  

• Not working for wages or engaging in activities inappropriate for their age  

• Not smoking and not engaging in any buying or selling transactions  

The Vaadhoo Council said it will take strong action against students who violate these rules.

“We remind and advise school children to keep their actions in accordance with laws and regulations. I urge parents to be more careful in such matters related to their children,” the council said in its statement.
