Scholar Dr. Mohamed Ali’s funeral prayer scheduled for after Isha at Islamic Center

The funeral prayer for Dr. Mohamed Ali, a renowned scholar who made significant contributions to public service and academics, is scheduled to be held on Monday at the Islamic Center in Male’ after Isha.

Mohamed Ali died on Sunday at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). He was 67 years of age.

His funeral is scheduled to begin at the Islamic Center at 04:00 pm, with the funeral prayer scheduled for after Isha.

Mohamed Ali obtained his PhD in Environmental Science from the United Kingdom. He began his career in the education sector in 1985, when he joined Majeediyya School as a teacher.

He later joined the Marine Research Centre, marking the beginning of his professional career in state service. Driven by a strong interest in the sciences, Mohamed Ali also served in the Environment Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs during this period.

During the administration of former president Dr. Mohamed Waheed, he was appointed Chief of Staff at the President’s Office before later serving as Controller of Immigration. During the subsequent administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, he served as Minister of State for Housing and Infrastructure and later as Minister of State for Islamic Affairs.

Alongside his government service, Mohamed Ali was also active in politics, making significant contributions to the Gaumee Party before later becoming a member of the Adhaalath Party.

In addition to his expertise in the sciences, Mohamed Ali had a deep commitment to Quranic studies. He was widely recognized for sharing his knowledge through the media and other public platforms, contributing to public awareness and education.
