Ogaru Faiza Ali, the mother of former Education Minister Dr Mahmood Shaugy, Elections Commission Member Ogaru Waheed and Broadcasting Commission Member Mariyam Shaugy has passed away last night.
Faiza was aged 70 and died in Trivandrum, India. Her family said that she passed away after more than two years of treatment for her illness.
Faiza left behind a husband, two sons and four daughters.
Faiza first worked as a Supervisor for workers at the former government hospital for five years, after which she took a Quran recitation course in Mauhadh. She then spent eighteen years as a Quran teacher in Iskandar School. She was also involved in social work such as efforts to develop Mahchangolhi district.
Faiza’s son said that his mother’s motto was ‘this day will also be gone soon’. He said that she would remind them of this motto whenever they were faced with difficulties, and always advised them to act with humility.
Faiza’s children are Dr Mahmood Shaugy, Ogaru Ibrahim Waheed, Mariyam Shaugy, Sharoona Shaugy, Fathimath Shaugy and Farzana Shaugy. Farzana Shaugy is the first speech therapist in the Maldives.
